Ken ring and mash out posse-plocka han

“Plocka han” translates “Get Him”, a chant usually heard through out M dot O dot P classics. So when i heard this new track i just loved how the Swedish rap veteran Ken Ring got the Marxmen to convert and drop the “Get Him” chant in Swedish over Tommy Tees sick drum line. The video looks like it was shot in several countries, Kenya, Norway and Sweden but off course the Kenyan scenes are just killer. The song is taken from part two of the Ken Ring and Tommy Tee collaboration “2 Legender Utan Penger”(2 Legends Without Money) dropping soon. Check the video..

Million stylez vs al azif

2008-2009 was very successful for Swedish producer and DJ Al Azif. His remix of Crossfire’s “Lady” reached the #1 position on The Voice Top 20 in Sweden, and stayed on the #1 spot on the Chilean Billboard singles chart for 8 weeks, leaving Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga on second and third place. His remix of Adam Tensta’s “My Cool” was a huge blog-hit and accumulated over a million plays on Youtube without being released on a record label. This led to extensive touring and sharing the booth with the likes of David Guetta.

Previously known for his Hip-Hop/RnB/Dancehall productions and DJ sets, Al spent 2010 in the studio exploring his new love, House music. 2011 marks the beginning of a new era and with his debut single just around the corner, this is the first taste of the “new” Al Azif, who is all about dance music.

This song depicts a story about a boy who growing up in a small town.

He is fed up with the restrictions its providing him, within a comfort zone and limited possibilities. He is hungry for development, hungry to capture his dreams. To be what he always dreamed of. He makes a bold decision to leave everything behind and takes a step out of this bubble. The boy ventures into the world with both eyes open; to work hard and perfect his dream. He has anticipated this moment for a long time and has never felt so ready.

Meanwhile his mother is conflicted. She is very worried about him and apprehensive of what the real world holds for her son. She pleads to reason with him to stay. But this boy who carries an overflowing passion of ambition and desire; can’t ignore the hope in his heart and takes a chance with a risk to suceed in his dreams. The world out there is calling him.

This song represents what this boy endured whilst going through such a great transition in his life. We all have dreams. But, at times we all have to make sacrifices to reach them.

The Misanthropist is a producer from Stockholm, Sweden who released the producer album Stocklyn
Retrospective in 2008 featuring artists such as Royce da 5’9, Masta Ace, Termanology, Trife da God and
many more.

Mr Free is an emcee originally from New York currently residing in the bay area, California. He has
previously released the albums Writes of Passage and Lay-Up Lines: The Mixtape. In addition to The
Edge he has also initiated a live band project in 2010.

On The Edge they join forces to bring you an album inspired by the classic boom bap sound but in the
year of 2011. Raw and melodious beats by The Misanthropist are combined with the powerful flow and
versatile lyrics of Mr Free.

hie light: five quick questions for twang system

The Roots and Reggae scene of Sweden is getting more and more interesting by the minute. One of the reasons for this is Twang System, a collective that doesn’t go back further than 2009 but yet has a great body of work to show for. Their latest song and video is sure to pave way for more exposure. HIE connected with the members of Twang System for a quick HIE light:

HIE: Tell us a little about the background of Twang System?

TS: Twang System is a family. Its Don Paco, Marwin B, Briz and Dj Patuu. Briz and Marwin B are from Barbados and Patuu and Don Paco are Chilean. We went to high school together studying music, Dj Patuu and Briz did the Rap and Soul program while Don Paco was in the Production program. Later Briz introduced us to Marwin B at the Swedish UppsalaReggaeFestival and from there we just hit it off! Partying, hanging out and chillin at the studio. At that time, around 2008, Paco & Briz were recording Swedish HipHop music. Dj Patuu suggested to try out the reggae/dancehall style and from there that style became our number one priority. Hearing Marwin B singing the tunes surprised us, he had a really good voice so we put him on the choruses. From there we became a unit, a family, a system! And what better word to describe us than Twang – for twang meaning that something is heavy, nice, and full of vibes! Twang System since 2009.

HIE: Your new song has a strong massage and its a much needed one. Tell us a bit more about it.

TS: We wanted to have a song that really represented us as a group and Never Let You Down became perfect for that. In a world where badmindness sometimes can become a big part of our reality it is important to remind people that there is still those who will never leave your side no matter what. That even in the darkest of times there can be light, so this became our way of spreading that message. We never leave a man behind, we stay strong as One and Never Let You Down

HIE: What are your thoughts about the roots and reggae scene in Europe, specifically Scandinavia?

TS: The reggae scene in Europe is definitely getting bigger and stronger with inspirations as Gentleman, Alborosie, Bitty Mclean and more, showing groups like us that the love for reggae can be practised anywhere and by anyone. I don’t know how much the world knows about the Scandinavian reggae scene but it’s there for sure! And it’s getting bigger by the day! Us djs are making sure that we spread the music in every event! Big Up to all known and upcoming artists!

HIE: Where in Europe would you like to tour the most?

TS: Haha anywhere, everywhere! Where there is a stage and love for our music, Twang System will be there!

HIE: The first month of 2011 is almost over. Has the year started good and whats next for Twang System?

TS: The video is out now with over 13.000 views in less than a week so it feels like a really sweet start of the year! Our street album Twang System – Never Let You Down will be released for download so keep a lookout for that! Then we are just going keep on working and spreading the good vibes! Blessings!

The Adam controversy

There is a little bit of heat around Adam Tensta right now and people are debating weather he is hip hop or not more than ever. I think its easier to say that his music is hip hop influenced as most popular music genres today and leave it at that. It feels like hip hop has forgotten that it too is a fusion of many other genres both in sound and vision, a hybrid. So why waste energy debating weather its hip hop or not. Is it good music? Period! But then again music means everything to alot of people and what they listen to is their identity. If you associate a certain type of sound to their identity and they don’t feel its representative, they will revolt. Understandable. So maybe the debate will go on until there is a name for this new music genre that Adam Tensta is spearheading. You know, a lable and a box. Its been a while since i heard a real mixtape put together by a Swedish Dj. You know a tape where the Dj actually mixes the music without a music program and majority of the songs are actually played from real vinyl(not hating on Serato). Dj Connect really takes you on a nostalgic trip. If you a true head you already know all the songs on here but its refreshing. You’re getting the scratches, cut backs, even a few “blend remixes”, lovely!
