On 21 of March Professor P and DJ Akilles released their album “The Realism” and it went straight to first place on the Swedish Itunes hip-hop chart. Proud and overwhelmed, they went out, not for one or two, but for four release parties. Uppsala, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Lund and the response at each stop was fantastic.

Now the duo is ready to release the first official video from the album. The song “Keep Doing It”, which features Adam Tensta and Rigael Damar is a soulful, melodic story with personal.

Marten Lindsjö, who directed the video, describes it this way:
“The song is about fighting and never giving up.” Keep doing it “simply. We chose to place the story in an environment that is perhaps as far from hip-hop world you can get. Physical exercise is a metaphor for racing and competition in the music, but in the end it’s about something bigger. ”

Professor P and DJ Akilles also talk about the video:
“When Marten proposed the concept, we knew immediately that it was an interesting angle. Idea is strong and differs in many respects from the preconceived notions some may have about hip hop videos. There are serious in the video tone that make it playful. We are proud of the result and hope people will like it, even though WE probably will only watch it once. What will you think after you’ve seen it … ”

Outside of the American continent Sweden is in the forefront when it comes to producing hip hop music. Both when it comes to Mc’s and beat makers. The reason for this is not a debate I’m prepared to dive into but the evidence is there for whoever wants to take look at it. That said, here is yet another hot Swedish export. Introducing Professor P and Dj Akilles. The duo has been on the Swedish scene for quite a while and before teaming up with Dj Akilles Professor P made a name for himself as a great freestyle and battle Mc. In 2010 they dropped the celebrated ep Maintain on vinyl and now we have a follow up called The realism. The music these two guys make is very much influenced by mid 90′s hip hop with crispy sampled soul beats and crunchy punchlines. The topics they chose to address are those of everyday life with a mantra of never giving up no matter what. It is very comforting to know that this type of music is still being made and with passion. It gives me a sense of hope for the whole genres survival.

Like any other artist, sacrifices have to be made at times, but at what cost? Silex addresses the daily struggles he has faced in his personal life as he sought the ‘high life’

“Music provides me with a natural high and having been living the ‘high life’ for so long, I felt my grasp on reality falter for a split second,” Silex explains. “I had to tighten the reigns a bit and when I heard the sample in the track, I had to address a situation which was a major turning point for me. Folks say that out of something bad comes something good and in this instance the good is my second official single, so it can’t all be bad.”

The protest storm that has been raging against the booking of Jamaican Reggae artist Sizzla has eventually led to a last minute cancellation of today’s concert.

The booking of Sizzla was controversial because of his lyrics that are claimed to incite violence against homosexuals. The artist was scheduled to perform at Strand in Stockholm on 28 March, but after a lot of pressure the show was moved to another venue, Slakthuset, just to be canceled again today in the very last minute.

“We want to apologize to all who have felt offended or been upset because of all the commotion surrounding this situation.” is the statement that came from the management of Slakthuset on their official Facebook page.

The statement further states that Sizzla was not booked directly, the venue was rented out to an external tour promoter.

“We thought these negative stories were history so we decided to allow him to play. We now however believe these issues are not of the past.”

Instead, now an event with Dancehall and Reggae Music will held at the slakthuset venue tonight.

There has been a storm surrounding the Sizzla concert that will now take place on wednesday march 28 at Slakthuset, a concert venue that has become very popular in Stockholm recently. At first Sizzlas concert was scheduled to take place at Strand, another popular concert venue in Stockholm, but due to massive protests against Sizzlas lyrical content from the gay community the Ceo of Strand Conny Lindstrom decided to cancel. Now that Slakthuset has taken on the concert they too have recieved a major outlash from gay activists but have decided to honor the contract between them and the promoter of the concert.

A press release from the staff of Slakthuset also stated their stance of non prejudice towards any group, race or religion and that they will run the concert under the “reggae compassionate act” witch states that no content of ill will against homosexuality should be performed on stage. In case that happens anyway the concert will be stopped and the police will be notified. But the staff of also clearly reserve their right to do business with whom ever they chose.

Yet another press release concerning this issue was issued from Sizzla’s management. It is believed to be official and you can read it in its entirety here below.

March 23, 2012
For Immediate Release
Re: Sizzla Official Statement
To Whom It May Concern,
We work closely with many of the artists in the reggae scene and feel that your constant attack against the artists and the musical genre is unfair and one sided. Sizzla has not even begun to tour, yet press releases have been sent giving misinformation to the public about him performing homophobic lyrics at 18 other shows recently. The tour has not even started and Sizzla was not booked to perform in neither Canada nor England. False information is being written to malice and defame his character. It is good to remember that Sizzla has not been arrested, convicted, or charged with any crime and does not have a criminal record what so ever. He abides and will continue to abide by the laws of any State in the World that he chooses to visit or is invited to visit. It is his nature and his character to respect all.
Sizzla and all human beings are entitled to freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and artistic freedom as afforded to him by the United Nations Human Rights Council. With these rights he does not seek to incite or provoke violence against anyone, but will continue to speak out against injustices where he sees it. Sizzla and other Jamaicans will continue to support the laws of their country and are free to discuss these issues in a legal framework as a citizen of that country. If anyone has an issue with that, take it up with the respective Government and which ever laws they make, even if he doesn’t agree, he will abide by. In the mean time, every attempt to sabotage or cancel a Sizzla show is a form of censorship against him and the musical genre.
Sizzla is a product of his own community, which is very much marginalized, poor, lack of resources, and youth programs. He has provided and continues to provide a platform for his community and Jamaica at large, access to community work, health, education, self- preservation programs, and youth development. Through his Sizzla Youth Foundation, he has done phenomenal work in Jamaica and throughout the world to help raise funds to develop the youth and possibly open doors that wouldn’t normally been closed. We find it very hard to believe that people would focus so much attention on a Jamaican artist, whilst ignoring the bigger issues of this world such as economic strangulation of the poor, sickness, and hunger.
Why is it after months of promotions and advertisement, some wait till a few days before a show to try to cancel the performance? This is a form of censorship and is designed to create maxim economic damage to the promoters, the artist, the staff, everyone involved in the construction of the tour, and the reggae industry at large. We don’t see you attack Eminem or other musicians who make clear stances against these same issues in the hip-hop, rock, and pop industry. It makes us wonder if there is a bigger picture being painted here? Or is it the fact that they just have better lawyers and bigger companies making money from them?
Patois the language that Sizzla uses to express his music are forms of metaphoric and allegoric expression. The messages in the songs are based on words that have been misconstrued and mistranslated. When he or any artists say burn, fire, or kill, they are not literal terms. In fact the words translate to mean several things depending on the context of its use. So when a DJ in the dancehall takes the mic and says kill Sound boy, it doesn’t mean take a gun a shoot the Sound boy. It means that the DJ is going to win the competition. So interpret at your own risk but understand that in different languages, different words mean different things and Patois is a language very different from English. Historically it was used during slavery to prevent the slave masters from understanding the enslaved Africans as they organized for freedom. Obviously it still is misunderstood and confusing many.
It is very important for you to understand something. The term batty boy was derived from the rise of pedophiles and rape of young boys in Jamaica. That is why the term batty boy is used, so those that embrace this term, therefore embrace the raping and pedophile of young boys. This is one of the main reasons why there is such an outcry against homosexuality because in many cases in Jamaica it has been done where young boys were raped or coerced by tourist into the lifestyle seeking to gain visa or better opportunities. This has also contributed to a rise in gay male prostitution in Jamaica and is prevalent amongst teenagers and youth of Jamaica.
Lastly, Sizzla just recovered from a horrific accident where he almost lost his life. Whilst some groups wish he had died, millions of fans around the world sent messages of support, good wishes and prayers for him to make a speedy recovery. This tour partly represent a thanks for their prayers and love that gave him the motivation to get well. Let us be clear, Sizzla has a catalogue of over 67 albums and well over 90% of his music is uplifting, positive, speaks of family, empowerment, love, spirituality, and unity. At the same time he is a Rastafarian musician who embraces his faith and plays a pivotal part in the betterment of his society. What would Bob Marley be today if groups protested against him, keeping him in a box, and preventing him from sharing his music? There are two sides to the story, and yes everyone should be entitled to live and express themselves, but we must be respectful of ALL people’s values and principles.
Thank you for taking the time to hear the other side of the story.
From the office of Kalonji Muzik and Pride Music

As legends on the Stockholm underground Hip hop scene people are always wondering about Chapee and Chess. Where are they now, what are they doing, will they ever drop something new. All Iknow is that they never stopped making music and that Chess made a temporary move and is now rapping in Swedish as Abidaz-bringing some of hardest Swedish bangers ever made to date. Chapstahman is quite current on the Stockholm clubscene as Dj Super chap and we have seen him backing Abidaz on stage often. He is also the one cutting up this fresh mix tape for us and as he describes it in his own words: “The lost & found mix tape is a collection of tracks recorded between 2000-2006. These songs have literally been lost & found hence the name”. If you have ever heard Chappe and Chess before and thought that you didn’t quite get enough this is your chance to overdose properly.

“Plocka han” translates “Get Him”, a chant usually heard through out M dot O dot P classics. So when i heard this new track i just loved how the Swedish rap veteran Ken Ring got the Marxmen to convert and drop the “Get Him” chant in Swedish over Tommy Tees sick drum line. The video looks like it was shot in several countries, Kenya, Norway and Sweden but off course the Kenyan scenes are just killer. The song is taken from part two of the Ken Ring and Tommy Tee collaboration “2 Legender Utan Penger”(2 Legends Without Money) dropping soon. Check the video..
